… I’m a free-range, freelance painter and teacher, and I’m also Principal of Façade Academy of Face and Body Art. And it’s with that second hat on that I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who came along to the Façade Academy Open Dayon Friday at the lovely Boxmoor Playhouse in Hemel Hempstead. Old friends and new painters – from the feedback I have had you all seemed to have thoroughly enjoyed it. People said how friendly everyone was and how welcome they felt after initially feeling nervous on arrival.
I think the #FPQT Face Painters Question Time was very useful and interesting – getting the views of not only of the panel, but the audience too. Some really good and pertinent questions were asked – ranging from how to set up a self-employed business to what age to paint children. It’s definitely something I’ll repeat again – perhaps at the next Paradise Jam? Thanks to Zoe Thornbury-Phillips and Sara Reynolds for stepping in and Georgina Todd for compering. I did a few demonstrations of basic skills and many of you said how much you learned from just that hour. Behind the scenes as every my right-hand woman and all round fantastic support Manda Forster for doing everything needed! If anyone wants to check out the current term’s schedule of classes, please look on the website: facadeacademy.co.uk

Prepare for blast-off at Camp Bestival, 28-31 July
I’m so looking forward to painting again at this year’s fabulous Camp Bestival, at Lulworth Castle in Dorset. I’ll be one of NamNams‘ 20-strong team of painters. It’s one of the highlights of my Summer Festival calendar.
I’m proud to be a member of FACE – the trade association that promotes and raises standards and awareness of professional face and body artists. And the FACE website produced an amazing job for me last week, face-painting at the Royal Bath & West Show at Shepton Mallet, where I painted these two sugar skull sisters.
Thanks to everyone who came and contributed to this year’s Paradise Jam!And jam-packed it was, too, with painters both face and body, children, demonstrations, traders, nail artists, henna, balloons, glitter, airbrush, hair plaiting – and don’t forget Frankenstein.
Once again, the day whizzed by in a colourful blur with so many wonderful designs flowing from the brushes rising to the heights of our theme, Nirvana.Children laughing at our entertainer AJ and an excellent raffle to finish off the day. Nearly 400 people came through the doors, browsed the stands and visited the zoo as well – a great bonus for the accompanying families.
All in all, a great way to celebrate the 10th year of the Façade Academy.
I hope you’ll be back next year – Monday of the February half-term. And perhaps in 2017 it might even be a two-day event!
Check out the Facebook page for more photos and painty chat about the Jam.
And thanks, too, Marsha Dunstan at Pinktree for all the lovely photos.
