I have a wonderful double life as a face painter…
… I’m a free-range, freelance painter and teacher, and I’m also Principal of Façade Academy of Face and Body Art. And it’s with that second hat on that I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who came along to the Façade Academy Open Day on Friday at the lovely Boxmoor Playhouse in Hemel Hempstead. Old friends and new painters – from the feedback I have had you all seemed to have thoroughly enjoyed it. People said how friendly everyone was and how welcome they felt after initially feeling nervous on arrival.
I think the #FPQT Face Painters Question Time was very useful and interesting – getting the views of not only of the panel, but the audience too. Some really good and pertinent questions were asked – ranging from how to set up a self-employed business to what age to paint children. It’s definitely something I’ll repeat again – perhaps at the next Paradise Jam? Thanks to Zoe Thornbury-Phillips and Sara Reynolds for stepping in and Georgina Todd for compering. I did a few demonstrations of basic skills and many of you said how much you learned from just that hour. Behind the scenes as every my right-hand woman and all round fantastic support Manda Forster for doing everything needed! If anyone wants to check out the current term’s schedule of classes, please look on the website: facadeacademy.co.uk
Where have the summer holidays gone? Is it my imagination or are they shrinking? As well as being the Bank Holiday weekend, for most of us this weekend (26-28 Aug) will be the last one before school goes back. So why not come and see us at the Face Painting cabin at Paradise Wildlife Park in Broxbourne, Herts, and go a bit wild. Take your inspiration from the animals and let us transform you in to a silver leopard, lion king, tiger, butterfly or bird.
We’re opposite the lemurs, from 11am every day – see you there!
Everyone’s invited to our fabulous and free Façade Academy open day on Friday, 8 September. Book your free place here!
One of the absolutely best things about being Principal of Façade Academy of Face Painting & Body Art is organising events for all our painty friends, old and new, at all levels – everyone is welcome, so bring your friends and families! It’s at the Boxmoor Playhouse in Hemel Hempstead, Herts.
This one is an open day for painters at all levels, to showcase what we do: demos (bring your requests!), a Question Time with our expert panel, a preview of our new line-up of classes for next term and a chance to discuss what classes would suit you best. Plus the launch of my new book, A-Z Animal Designs: A Face Painting Workbook. And there will be afternoon tea and a mini jam – so bring your paints, just in case!

27-30 July: I’m off to Camp Bestival again this year to join the crew of 20 painters adorning the children and adults at this wonderful and cheerful festival – particularly aimed at families with young children. I highly recommend it! In Lulworth Cove in Dorset.
The family festival at Pippingford Park, East Sussex, 26–29 May
I’m very excited – this will be my first festival of the season! Getting the hippy clothes and camping gear ready! I’ll be face painting with my dream team buddies down in the fields of East Sussex.
This is a proper green-field family festival with the usual music, tree-swinging, dressing up, sports, crafts and loads of fun for the children, too, haha!

I’m so looking forward to painting again at this year’s fabulous Camp Bestival, at Lulworth Castle in Dorset. I’ll be one of NamNams‘ 20-strong team of painters. It’s one of the highlights of my Summer Festival calendar.
See you there!
Team Juliet is in training for school holidays
It’s only a matter of days now before school’s out for the summer, so I’ve been busy lining up a top team of face-painters at Paradise Wildlife Park for the holidays. Nams, Philly, Kate, Zoe, Heather, Brierley and Linda will all be taking turns to paint with me over the next couple of months, each one bringing their own style and expertise.
So do remember to bring your loyalty card if you’ve got one, and to ask for one if you haven’t. Eight signed boxes earn you a free face-paint!
You’ll find us in my face-painting cabin, opposite the lemurs. See you there…
